With a potential playoff spot hanging in the balance, the Oceanside boys football team hosted Morse of Bath in its regular-season finale Friday night, Oct. 19 at Wasgatt Field.

And as it turns out, the Shipbuilders ran into a wall against the Mariners, a wall made of Stone.

Dan Stone, that is.

The senior tailback accounted for 26 of the hosts' 27 points on the night as the Mariners clobbered the Shipbuilders 27-7 in what proved the final game of the campaign for both squads.

Oceanside (3-5) finished ninth in Eastern Class B, narrowly missing the playoffs. Morse (2-6) finished 12th in the 14-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the postseason.

On Friday, Dan Stone finished with 139 yards on 27 carries, along with four touchdowns and a two-point conversion.

Coincidentally, the final point of the night was kicked by Travis Stone on an extra point. Dan Stone and Travis Stone are not related.

Also leading the Mariner offense were Garrett Burns (11 carries for 68 yards), Preston Spear (7 carries for 69 yards) and Sam Meklin (6-of-10 passing for 84 yards).

Jacob Butman had two quarterback sacks on defense to lead Oceanside.

Kevin McKellar rushed for 89 yards on nine carries, with his 57-yard touchdown run in the second quarter briefly putting the Shipbuilders on top. McKellar also was 7-of-24 under center for Morse.

Dan Stone put Oceanside on top 6-0 with a 4-yard touchdown run with 8:15 remaining in the second quarter before McKellar's touchdown, coupled with an Aaron Barrett extra point, gave Morse a one-point lead.

Dan Stone then plunged in from one yard out with 10:43 left in the third quarter, prior to his own two-point conversion, and added two more touchdowns of three and four yards in the fourth quarter, with Travis Stone kicking the final point of the game with 6:22 remaining.
