Rockport Police arrested a Rockport man on a charge of operating under the influence Saturday, Sept. 22, around 3:45 p.m. after he careened off the road, hitting a barn and totaling the tractor housed inside.

Stephen Rhoades, 65, of Rockport was driving north on South Street in a 1998 Ford pick-up truck when he drifted off the paved road, striking a tree before colliding with the barn. The impact of Rhoades' vehicle did "significant damage" to the barn and resulted in the total loss of an L4400 model Kubota tractor stored inside, according to the accident report. The tractor was expected to be covered by insurance, it is unknown if insurance coverage extends to the building.

Rhoades was arrested at the scene and transported to Knox County Jail and his vehicle was towed due to "disabling damage," according to police.

The Kubota tractor belongs to Samuel Appleton of Camden and the barn is owned by Barny Hildreth of Cumberland. Rockport Police Sgt. Travis Ford investigated the incident.
