The weather was perfect for basketball July 31, something local youngsters found out first-hand as the Maine Red Claws invaded the Midcoast for the third straight year with their annual summer clinic series.

Red Claw players Eugene Spates and Kenny Hayes walked the future basketball stars through a series of drills before sending everyone home happy with their own Maine Red Claw t-shirts.

The month-long series, sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts, brings the team’s caravan to 13 areas from Presque Isle to Conway, N.H. and stops along the way. The series began July 9 in Gorham and concluded Aug. 2 in Lisbon Falls.

“This is wonderful collaboration with the local Dunkin’ Donuts business owners to bring professional basketball to kids across the state, and a great opportunity for us to visit fans across Maine, many of whom may have only had the opportunity to see the team play on television,” said Dajuan Eubanks, Red Claws vice president of corporate partnerships. “This is the third season we have held the Maine Red Claws Summer Clinic Series, sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts, and we are looking forward to another great summer traveling throughout the state and meeting Red Claws fans.”

The Red Claws are in their fourth season and are the minor league affiliate of the National Basketball Association’s Boston Celtics. The series visited the Thomaston Dunkin’ Donuts two years ago and came to the Rockland Dunkin’ Donuts last year.
