For the second year, the Camden Fire Department is working with the Friends of the Amphitheatre Ice Rink to create a 52-foot by 80-foot ice skating rink in the park adjacent to the Camden Public Library on Atlantic Avenue. Dave Jackson said Dec. 28 that it would take a few nights of 10- to 20-degree chill to harden the 25,000 gallons of water that was pumped into the plastic liner over a four-hour period.

He said the rink will be ready in plenty of time for Winterfest on Saturday, Jan. 28. In addition to skating, the annual celebration will include a community ice carving event in which community groups come together to transform ordinary blocks of ice into crystalline ice sculptures using the traditional tools of the ice-carving artisan. Hot drinks and soups will be served. Those interested in forming ice carving teams should contact Jackson at 236-7014 or Ken Gross at the Camden Public Library at 236-3440.
