Maine architect John Silverio will sign all three of his recently published books Friday, Oct. 21 between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. at the Personal Book Shop and Gallery, 144 Main St./Route 1.

“The Book of the Hut” is about primal dwelling and the essence of shelter as seen through the lenses of traditional shelter, mythology, poetry, fairy tales, children’s drawings and play huts. But above all, it is about how we can incorporate an understanding of the hut into the design of today’s homes.

“Hearthspire — Designing Wood-Heated Houses” is a design resource book that includes history, theory and examples of wood-heated houses designed around a central masonry heater and chimney.

“Radiance Indwelling — Notes and Sketches about Spirit and Architecture” is a collection of more than 40 years of notebook writings and more than 200 sketches. It presents the germinal thoughts tracing the author’s search for the quality of radiance and its application to architectural design.

Since the early 1980s, Silverio has designed hundreds of shingled homes and cottages in Maine. His work has appeared in numerous magazines and books. In 2000, he was joined by his son Matthew in their Lincolnville studio.

The books are available at local book stores and on Amazon. For more information about the signing, call 354-8058.
