Lincolnville’s 2011 Harvest Celebration will take place on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Walsh Common of the Lincolnville Central School . The public of all ages is invited to celebrate the rich bounty of local foods harvested by and for the community during the 2011 season. The event is free, but everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to share for the potluck meal.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the potluck will begin immediately. All potluck dishes are welcome, and any home-grown or locally-produced ingredients used in a dish will be noted. Beverages will be available for a small donation.

During the meal, there will be a slide show featuring photos of Lincolnville’s 2011 gardens and farms, and farmers’ market that was held each Saturday during the summer. Anyone who wishes to contribute to the slideshow collection can post up to 10 images at lhcphotos2011@gmail.com; the deadline for postings is Oct. 10.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m., activities will get started. Weather permitting, field games for children and families will be held outdoors. Indoors, a farmers’ market will be open to all those wanting to sell or buy local foods and a costume swap will provide an opportunity to get ready for Halloween. Anyone who wants to swap an old costume for a new one should bring their gently worn costumes, masks, and accessories from Halloweens past. For more info, contact Liz Hand at 763-4521 or tbird@midcoast.com.

The Harvest Celebration will close with a variety show from 3 to 4 p.m. Local talent will be featured with Lincolnville musicians, storytellers, and dancers. Entertainment will be provided by Will Brown, Chris Polson, Rosey Gerry, Cummons family members, LCS students, Diane O’Brien and Djump African dance and drum group. To participate in the variety show, contact Jim Dunham at 789-5233 or jdunham@tidewater.net
