Auditions will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Camden Opera House for an upcoming production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” as adapted by John E. Bielenberg of Belfast. The production is being staged by the Camden Opera House and  Bielenberg with the support of Everyman Repertory Theatre.

An ensemble of 10 actors/singers will be cast for this innovative adaptation of the holiday classic. Members of the ensemble will play themselves and a variety of Dickens characters. Those auditioning do not have to prepare a monologue but, as this play has a considerable amount of music, Auditioners should come prepared to sing a short selection (a traditional Christmas carol would be entirely acceptable). The cast includes both men and women ranging from teens to middle age.

Rehearsals will begin on Nov. 7 and performance dates are Dec. 9, 10, 16, 17 and 18 at the Camden Opera House, Main Street/Route 1.

The production will be directed by Bielenberg, who created this adaptation for the Cider Mill Playhouse in upstate New York in 1979. It has been performed there every holiday season ever since, running more than 30 years. Last year, the show was produced by the Belfast Maskers.
