The Skating Club of Maine announces the beginning of its Fall Session Skating classes, starting on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Mid-Coast Recreation Center in Rockport.

Introduction to Freestyle class will be held on Wednesdays from 5:50 to 6:50 p.m. Basic Skills classes are available both for children and adults on Saturdays from 10:50 to 11:50 a.m. Registration for classes begins now.

The Basic Skills program consists of eight levels (“Basic Eight”), and includes the fundamentals of skating for the sports of hockey, figure skating, speed skating, and recreational skating. The Snowplow Sam class consists of three levels for children ages 4 to 6, and Introduction to Freestyle classes teach elements of figure skating, such as jumps, spins, footwork and edge drills. Individual booster lessons are also available on Wednesdays from 5:50 to 6:50 p.m.

It is highly recommended that skaters register in advance for these programs. Skaters should arrive at least a half hour early. Parents or skaters should contact director Tanya Quigley for registration forms and for more information regarding classes, session fees, appropriate attire and details regarding skates (rental skates are available). The Skating Club of Maine regularly holds its skating programs at Mid-Coast Recreation Center in Rockport from October through March.
