Nashville singer/songwriter and steel guitar player Perley Curtis will perform with Eddie and the Country Aces at the weekly country dance Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Union Masonic Lodge No. 31, 149 Sennebec Road.

The dance will run from 8 to 11 p.m. Admission is $10. There will be door prizes and a raffle, and the snack bar will be open for the BYOB event. For more information, call 712-1314.

Curtis grew up in Maine, developing a love of country music and its legends such as Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn. After first picking up a guitar at age 8, he played his first paying gig when he was just 9-years-old, at his uncle’s wedding reception.

In the years following, Curtis performed in bluegrass bands throughout New England, then moved to Nashville in 1988. Since his move to Music City, he has performed in bands of his own and also has earned a reputation as a skilled dobro and steel guitarist, performing with artists such as Holly Dunn, Becky Hobbs, Johnny Paycheck, Connie Smith, The Reno Brothers, Del Reeves, Loretta Lynn, Trace Adkins and, most recently, Charlie Louvin.

“All of my greatest accomplishments have happened since I moved to Nashville,” he said.

Although multi-talented, Curtis is clear to focus his efforts on his own career as a recording artist. His first CD, “Heartbreak Town,” showcased his no-frills vocal style and dobro expertise. The 10-song CD is packed with tales of Americana, and his latest self-titled CD is more of the same. True blue country music fans will not be disappointed.

Married to fellow country artist Erin Hay, Curtis counts his six-year tour with Lynn and a recent tour with Louvin as career highlights. Currently, he is focusing on his solo/touring career and also is in the beginning stages of a new duet CD with his wife. Whatever Curtis does, rest assured, it will be traditional country music.
