John Wood is the Artist of the Month for October at the downtown Camden Public Library. Wood’s watercolor paintings will be exhibited in the Picker Room and will include recent paintings, mostly landscapes and seascapes of the Midcoast. All are welcome to an opening reception for the artist Saturday, Oct. 1 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Visitors may view the paintings during library hours: Mondays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays) and Sundays from 1 to 50 p.m.

Wood has an extensive background in the arts. He has been a painter of landscapes for much of his life and has spent a part of his arts career as professional actor and singer in New York City where he appeared on stage, daytime television and in film. Wood credits his theater training in helping develop his skills as a painter. He has studied painting in New York, Maine and at schools in Oregon and Philadelphia.

Wood has been juried into shows at the Berman Art Museum, the Woodmere Museum and the Wayne Art Center in the Philadelphia area. He is a signature member of the Pennsylvania and Baltimore watercolor societies and he has had paintings accepted into juried exhibitions of both the National and American watercolor societies. Wood is a resident of Rockland and is represented by the city’s Landing Gallery.
