“Animal Kingdom,” an art exhibition by the Lively Ladies to benefit animals at the Rockland-based Humane Society of Knox County, will open with a 5 to 7 p.m. public reception Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the Garage Gallery of Eastern Tire Auto Service, Inc., 70 Park St.

The featured paintings are recent works by nine artists and include a focus on cats, dogs, wild animals and fowl. Portraits of several shelter animals will star on the walls. Selected landscapes, some with birds in them, will be shown too, for wider appeal. The gallery exhibit is slated to run through the winter and may be viewed weekdays through business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participating in the show are Stell Shevis and Bird Burns of Camden; Edith LaRoche of Searsmont; Pat Farmer of Cushing; Deborah Winship, Lois Anne and Nancy Fitzgerald of Rockland; and Elizabeth O’Haverty and Lauralee Clayton of Lincolnville.

Members of the group, who meet weekly in Camden, also will offer for sale the animal and cat postcards from their current Postcard Project, another shelter benefit. For more information, call 789-5430.
