Thirty-five Maine-based or -connected writers and illustrators, including a number from the Midcoast, will convene for 25 events at five locations over two days during the fifth annual Bangor Book Festival Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

Beginning with keynote speaker Colin Woodard on Friday evening and continuing with programs throughout the day on Saturday, the festival will offer something for readers of every age and interest. All events are free and open to the public. For a complete schedule, visit bangorbookfest.org.

Maine Authors Publishing and Cooperative owner Jane Karker of Rockland will lead a pre-festival self-publishing session on Friday afternoon. Midcoast authors participating in the festival include Susan Conley, Paul Doiron, Dave Morrison and Eva Murray.

Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance is a major partner in this year’s festival. The 2011 Festival is funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, and is supported by the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, Bangor Public Library, the City of Bangor, GALE Cengage Learning, Quirk Auto Group, The Briar Patch, HarpWorks Writing Services, Maine Discovery Museum, Bagel Central, The Charles Inn, Maine Equipment & Party Rental, The Maine Edge and Down East.
