VinFest 2011 will take place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 on the grounds of the Cellardoor Winery and Vineyard, 367 Youngtown Road. Ushering in Maine’s beautiful fall season, the annual two-day celebration will kick off with a sparkling dinner-dance in a festive tent Friday evening.

The elegant four-course menu, paired with Cellardoor wines and prepared by the executive chefs of Natalie’s at Camden Harbour Inn, the Hartstone Inn, Lily Bistro and David’s, is sold out. Tickets for the following dance and desserts, from Trillium Caterers, are available for $50. Guests will dance the night away to the sounds of the Chris Humphrey Band.

A special highlight will be a performance by award-winning R&B singer/songwriter Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. Babyface has composed for and/or performed with an entire galaxy of stars including Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Ashanti, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Aretha Franklin, Pink and Paula Abdul. People with tickets for dessert and the Babyface concert should plan to arrive by 8 p.m.

In a relatively short time, Babyface has reached icon status as a poignant tunesmith, prolific hit maker/producer, superstar recording artist, and revolutionary label owner. A 10-time Grammy winner with 11 solo albums of his own, Babyface’s impeccably crafted explorations of love, romance and relationships have made an indelible imprint on the evolution of contemporary pop music throughout the world. Most recently, he co-wrote and produced Beyoncé’s latest single, “Best Thing I Never Had.”

The fun-filled Fall Harvest Celebration will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. and include food, wine, live music and a variety of activities. Among these will be grape stomping, a homemade wine competition (call 763-4478 for details and advance registration), a grape-crushing demonstration, face painting, hula-hooping demonstrations, a scarecrow-decorating contest, wine tastings, farm stands, cooking demonstrations, Model T rides, horse-drawn wagon rides and lunch prepared by Riverfront Barbeque & Grille of Augusta.

Advance ticket purchase is required for the Friday night event and includes admission to all Saturday events. Tickets for the Saturday celebration only are $10. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Winery at 763-4478 or online at brownpapertickets.com.
