On Friday, Sept. 23, Rock City Cafe’s Velvet Lounge series will welcome back the Ale House String Band. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rock City Café, 316 Main St.

Comprised of Brian Dunn on mandolin, April Reed-Cox on cello and Oren Robinson on guitar, the Ale House String Band was formed through a couple of happy accidents. Robinson regularly played at the Waldoboro tavern and its owner introduced him to Dunn, setting the foundation of the group. Reed-Cox moved to the area and was invited to sit in. The resulting chemistry was evident to everyone who was present that evening and thus the Ale House String Band was formed.

The combo performs anywhere within a day’s ride and can be found happily picking, plucking, bowing, strumming and singing away in a plethora of venues.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Velvet Lounge presents the Mehuman Trio.  Singer/songwriter/guitarist Mehuman (“MAY-mon”) Jonson is an award-winning songwriter who has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. Playing an original mix of acoustic neo-soul and Americana, with influences of jazz, funk and gospel, Mehuman Trio creates a sonic palette that defies a single label. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m.

As usual there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123.
