When it comes to cell phone apps, small business can get out in front of big business, said cell phone app expert Dan Belhassen.

“Cell phone apps are the wave of the future for small business,” said Belhassen in a news release. There’s a multitude of uses for small organizations with cell phone apps, he said, including directions, products and prices, locations, blogs and more. “A locally owned coffee shop can now have a cell phone app,” he saidBelhassen teaches a new online course on Creating Cell Phone Apps for Business, sponsored by the Five Town Adult & Community Education program. The online course is relevant for people in any workplace organization, including companies, nonprofits, government and small business, said Tim Dresser, Director of Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education.

Belhassen said all this is possible with new technology that has just come out in the last year, making it possible for non-technical people to create cell phone apps for their organizations for only a couple of hundred dollars or less.

“You don’t need a technical person, you don’t need a lot of money, and you don’t need any programming experience,” he said.

“With smart phones becoming standard, cell phone apps are the new frontier for small business organizations, including nonprofits, government agencies, schools, clubs and mom-and-pop businesses,” Belhassen predicts. Belhassen speaks all over North America on eMarketing and is founder of the software company Modern Earth in Winnipeg.

The one-month online course, which starts the week of Oct. 3, covers business uses for apps, building the first application, promoting the app, tracking traffic, and other issues. Participants log into the course anytime day or night, from any computer. There are recorded audio lectures by the instructor with slides, videos, online readings and ongoing discussion with the instructor and other participants.

The online courses are offered four times a year. For additional information about Creating Cell Phone Apps for Business or other online courses and certificates, check the Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education website at fivetowns.maineadulted.org.
