Trekkers is seeking new adult volunteers interested in serving as one-on-one tutors. For the past five years, Trekkers has provided tutors to students attending the former Georges Valley High School in Thomaston. This year, the organization will begin offering this opportunity to all students attending the Oceanside High School east and west campuses. Trekkers will offer its tutoring services free of charge.

Due to its recent expansion to increase enrollment and communities served, Trekkers would like to increase its pool of local adult volunteers who are on-call and willing to tutor when needed.

Executive Director, Don Carpenter, said, “Not every student in the district needs or wants a tutor, but for those who do, we can provide a caring adult who, over time, can help turn their academic struggles into successes. Of course, we are currently working with more students, which means we need more volunteers to help serve in this important way.”

Once a need has been identified, Trekkers seeks to pair each student and tutor together to suit the student’s academic need and the tutor’s strength. The organization will then coordinate the match and provide technical assistance when needed.
