The following is a synopsis of the 2011 Camden Hills Regional High School mountain bike squad:

Team: Camden Hills mountain biking.

Coach/years coached current team: Steve Koskinen, third year.

Last year’s record/playoff information: Windjammers have won Maine High School Mountain Bike Series and state team championship 12 consecutive seasons.

Roster: Seniors Robin Crandle, Tucker VanDusen, Kendra Patten, Tristan Leidinger, Lucas Dill, Jack Podolsky, Vincent Forzetting, Neal Harrison-Billiat and Henry Owen; juniors Cole Ellison, Eliot Grigo, Cade Patten, Evan Hannibal, Riley Duggan, Connor Lane, Chris Pettee, Mike Ames and Caleb Whitney; and sophomores Chapin Lamont, Quinten Duggan, Alex Mansius, Alec Russo and Joseph Tibbetts; and freshman Arlen Griggs.

Graduation loss: Henry Haselton.

Significant impact riders: Crandle and VanDusen.

Team strengths: Camden Hills has a tradition of success in the sport and this year’s team will be no exception with 17 of last year’s members returning.

Team goals: To be competitive and “instill a lifelong partnership with a healthy lifestyle of cycling,” the coach said.

Top league opponents: Gould Academy of Bethel and riders from the Biddeford-Southern Maine Junior League

Outlook: “I am in awe of the enthusiasm each and every team member brings to our sport,” said coach Koskinen. “We all have our weaknesses and strong attributes, but by having the newer members riding with the more experienced riders, tremendous progress is observed from week to week. I feel if we practice with specific goals in mind (cadence, proper shifting, balance, weight distribution) then the races on Saturday afternoon will just be an extension of practice. We, as a team, are very fortunate to have the support of the Camden Hills administration, parents, and alumni who bring a healthy perspective to the team.”
