The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to and reported the following calls from Aug. 28 through Sept. 3.

Aug. 28

Deputy Dave Johnson responded to assist Maine State Police Trooper Jeremiah Wesbrock at the scene of a shooting in Union. This is a state police case and was deemed an accidental shooting.

Subsequent to a traffic stop on Vinalhaven, Deputy Larry Hesseltine arrested Ira Warren, 22, of Vinalhaven on charges of operating under the influence and operating without a license. The subject was transported to the island patrol office and later bailed.

Aug. 29

Deputy Hesseltine arrested Ira Warren, 22, of Vinalhaven on a charge of violating a condition of release. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail via Maine Marine Patrol.

Deputy James Moore arrested Corey Rytky, 31, of St. George on an outstanding arrest warrant. The subject was taken to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputy Paul Spear began an investigation of a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash in St. George. There are no suspects or leads at this time as video has yet to be viewed.

Deputy Johnson responded to a report of a suspicious male walking in the middle of the road in Friendship. After speaking to the male and issuing him a warning for same, he was later observed by Sgt. Michael Sprague, again walking in the middle of the roadway. Mark Gagne, 28, of Friendship was then arrested on charges of obstructing a public way and transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Subsequent to a traffic stop in Warren, Sgt. Sprague arrested Cody Gnosini-Rubenstein, 20, of Rockland on a charge of operating after suspension. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident. The passenger of the vehicle was also summonsed for permitting unlawful use of the vehicle.

Aug. 30

Deputy Moore began an investigation of an assault that took place between two inmates at the Knox County Jail. As a result of this investigation, Ricky Coffin, 28, of Rockland was arrested on charges for same.

Deputy Nathaniel Jack responded to a report of trespassing in Warren. Upon arrival and after speaking to the parties involved, the male was issued a warning for same.

Deputy Jack responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving two vehicles, one of which pulled out in front of the other causing them to collide. Reportable damage was sustained with no personal injuries noted.

Deputy Steve Grasso responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Friendship involving a single vehicle striking a building due to brake failure. Reportable damage was sustained.

Aug. 31

Detective Justin Twitchell arrested Matthew Wood, 26, of Union on an outstanding arrest warrant. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputy Elwell arrested Adam Knowlton, 22, of Warren on an outstanding arrest warrant. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputy Jack responded to a report of a boat fire in Friendship to assist Maine Marine Patrol and the Friendship Fire Department.

Sept. 1

Deputy Palmer responded to a report of harassment in Washington involving three individuals. The male harasser was issued a notice for same.

Deputy Jack began a motor vehicle burglary investigation in Warren. There are no suspects or leads at this time.

Detective Dwight Burtis arrested Kelly Hynd, 42, of Rockland on an outstanding arrest warrant. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Sept. 2

Sgt. Sprague conducted a radar detail in Owls Head. No violations were noted.

Deputy Palmer responded to a disorderly complaint in Warren. Upon arrival and after speaking to the suspect involved, he was issued a warning for same.

Sept. 3

Deputy Moore and Detective Don Murray responded to a disorderly complaint in Thomaston. Upon arrival and after speaking to all involved, two were warned on disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and harassment.

Detective Murray responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving two vehicles, one of which ran a red light and collided with the other. Reportable damage was sustained. The subject who ran the red light was issued a summons for same.

Sgt. Sprague arrested Todd Morales, 39, of Warren on an outstanding arrest warrant. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputies Elwell and Sgt. Sprague responded to Warren after receiving several complaints of criminal mischief involving unknown individuals hiding behind a guardrail and either throwing rocks or shooting a BB gun at passing vehicles. Subsequent to this response, Nick Adkins, 21, of Warren was arrested on charges of aggravated criminal mischief and obstructing government administration and criminal restraint. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without further incident.

In total, during this one-week period, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received 201 calls for service. Those calls that are not listed above are such calls as all-terrain vehicle problems, alarms, 911 hang-ups, along with nuisance, erratic vehicle and suspicious complaints.
