The following is a synopsis of the 2011 Oceanside High School boys varsity soccer squad:

Team: Oceanside boys soccer.

Coach/years coached current team: Josh Mahar, 10th year (nine with Rockland).

Last year’s record/playoff information: Georges Valley finished 6-8, 11th among 15 teams in Western Class C and did not qualify for the playoffs. Rockland finished 1-13, 16th among 18 teams in Eastern Class B and did not qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Nate Boggs, Ian Mauricette, Dylan Maloney, Kyle Robinson, Gordon Armstrong, Casey Hall, Conor Pfister and Nick McKee; juniors Brandon Taylor, Drew Townsend and Peter Talbot; and sophomores John Ferguson, Nick Judge, Sawyer Pillsbury, Jeb Fontaine, Ben Caron and Zach Dean.

Graduation losses: Georges Valley lost Dakota Smith, Cy McGeady, Bryant Matthews, Cody Poland and Zach Marvin, while Rockland lost Luke Morrill and Casey Raymond.

Significant impact players: None.

Team strengths: Athletic, hard-working.

Team goal: To qualify for the Eastern Class B playoffs.

Top league opponents: Camden Hills, Mount View of Thorndike, Medomak Valley, Winslow and Maranacook of Readfield.

Outlook: “We should be very competitive if we are able to stay healthy,” said coach Mahar. “We have a big group of talented underclassmen who will play junior varsity and freshmen soccer that will jump in and help the varsity team next year.”
