On Saturday, Sept. 17 the Coastal Children’s Museum, located at 75 Mechanic St. in Rockland, will host a bevy of birds of prey from 1 to 2 p.m. Barbara and Tomm Tomlinson will bring their live owl and hawk program to the museum with lots of fun facts, bad jokes and truly fascinating animals. Children and their families will enjoy this dynamic show.

The Tomlinsons presented their wildlife shows and ran Wild-Haven Inc. wildlife center in North Carolina for 15 years before moving to Maine. Birds that will be on show will be Miss Bernie, a beautiful barred owl, Banshee the barn owl, and Ripley (believe it or not) a red shouldered hawk.

Children can’t help but learn about these wonderful animals at one of these shows and they won’t even notice it happening, truly encapsulating the mission of the Coastal Children’s Museum, which is to provide children and families the opportunity to explore, discover and learn through play.

The special event will be held upstairs in the Sail, Power & Steam Museum and tickets cost $3 a person. Call 596-0300 or email info@coastalchildrensmuseum.org to reserve tickets. The museum will be closed from Sept. 5 to 13 for cleaning so reservations will be taken over the phone and via email during that period.
