The following is a synopsis of the 2011 Medomak Valley High School cross-country squads:

Team: Medomak Valley cross country.

Panther boys finished 26-12, sixth at the KVACs and 10th at the Eastern Class B championships.

Roster: Seniors Alyssa Griggs, Heidi Harris, Mason Vermilion, Jordan Hopkins, Jocelyn Thames, Maddie Bodine, Ian Rixon, Brendon O’Donnell, Lance Parker and Kyle Baubonis; juniors Kelsie Grady, Bailey Black, Missy Philbrook, Abbie Vail, Brianna Gross, Danica Miller, Nick Anderson, Taylor Packard and Ivan Johnson; sophomores Shannon Staples, Kristi Severson and Alexander Casas; and freshmen Tricia Cormier, Beth Corson, Gavin Felch and Alex Kenniston.

Graduation losses: Gwen Moiles, Megan Wyllie, Ashley Luce, Joe Murphy, Quinton Vannah and Mike Gillman.

Significant impact players: Anderson, Thames, Vermilion and Griggs.

Team strengths: Depth, many talented, experienced runners.

Team goals: To improve as the season goes along, to put a stamp on the season as being one of the top teams in the KVAC and earn a berth in the state meet.

Top league opponents: Camden Hills and Winslow.

Outlook: “For this early in the season I think both the boys teams and girls teams are going to be really, really competitive,” said Gould. “On the boys team we’ve got a couple freshmen who are going to help us [and] some juniors who have moved up and are getting better every day. On the girls side we’ve got our four seniors that we’ve gone with since they were freshmen and they’re steady, strong and have had some really outstanding runners in front of them [in the past]. I think those four girls will take over the reins, step up and continue to lead the program.”
