Sandy Ferguson Fuller, author of the new children’s book “My Cat, Coon Cat,” will sign copies of the book Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Planet Toys, 318 Main St.

The charming children’s book, illustrated by Maine artist Jeannie Brett and published by Islandport Press, uses verse to tell the story of a young girl who moves into a new house and slowly wins the affection of a classic Maine coon cat. Through the course of a day, the girl and the cat share experiences that bring them closer. Gentle rhymes and appealing watercolors will delight early readers as they learn how to make a new friend with patience, humor and kindness.

Fuller is an accomplished writer and illustrator of children’s books, originally inspired as a student of Maurice Sendak at Yale University. Her titles include “Moon Loon,” “Out in the Night,” “Hannah and the Perfect Picture Pony” and “The BLUES Go Birding” series. Fuller also is the founder of Alp Arts Co., a full-service literary agency for authors and illustrators of children’s and young adult books. She lives in Colorado but spends parts of each summer at her cottage in Maine.

Brett, who lives in York with her family, attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
