The Cancer Care Center at Pen Bay Medical Center announces that Dawn Murphy, MSN, RN, CRNP, has joined the staff. As the center’s oncology nurse practitioner, she will perform physical examinations, assess patient status, communicate with supervising physicians, and coordinate care of oncology patients in office, clinic and infusion settings. She will also be responsible for ongoing patient education about the disease process and treatment.

Murphy comes to Pen Bay from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where she not only worked as an oncology nurse practitioner, but also oriented and trained newly hired oncology nurse practitioners and registered nurses. In addition, she identified and coordinated patients for clinical trials. Previously she worked as an oncology nurse practitioner at the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia, and as a clinical nurse educator at Innovex/Bristol Myers Squibb in Princeton, N.J.

“I like the focus of small institutions like Pen Bay, where I can serve my patients using the full range of my skills and experience,” said Murphy. “I grew up in a small town, and I look forward to being involved in our new community.”

Murphy received her master’s degree in adult oncology advanced practice nursing from Thomas Jefferson University, graduating summa cum laude. She received her nursing degree from Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y.

Murphy and her husband have moved to Rockport from New Jersey. “We had vacationed in Maine over the years – even in January,” she said, “We love the ocean, and we knew we wanted to come back.” They have a son and a daughter in their 20s who will also be living in Maine.
