The Knox County Sheriff’s Office charged two people reportedly involved in a string of thefts from the towns of St. George, Warren, Cushing, Friendship, Union, Thomaston and Waldoboro.

Troy Crane of Port Clyde and Zechariah Meibaum of Cushing, both 20 years old, were charged with receiving stolen property and violation of condition of release, related to previous criminal activity, according to a news release from Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

The two suspects are scheduled to make their first court appearance Nov. 14.

In recent months towns have been reporting thefts of street signs from all over the area worth an estimated value of more than $5,000. Deputies Nathan Jack, James Moore and Detective Don Murray of the sheriff’s office followed up on information obtained and found 61 various street signs at a location in St. George.

Members of the sheriff’s office are continuing their investigations relating to these thefts to hopefully recover more soon and return them to the respective towns.
