The following is a synopsis of the 2011 Vinalhaven High School girls varsity soccer squad:

Team: Vinalhaven girls soccer.

Coach/years coached current team: Susan Philbrook, seventh year.

Last year’s record/playoff information: 5-6-1, fourth in Western Class D. Lost to No. 1 Richmond 2-0 in the semifinals.

Roster: Seniors Izza Drury (center midfielder, stopper), Kassandra Hopkins (wing, halfback), Blake Reidy (striker, wing) and Alex Slivinsky (goalie); sophomores Bethany Candage (fullback), Eliza Davidson (center mid, halfback, wing), Ashley Hamilton (stopper, sweeper), Ellie Reidy (halfback), Abby Jones (stopper, sweeper, wing) and Ryann Warren (halfback, wing); freshmen Ashley Davis-Oakes (fullback) and Taylor Littlefield (halfback, wing); and eighth-graders Jazmine Arey (halfback, wing, fullback), Sarah James (wing) and Hannah Noyes (wing).

Graduation losses: Alana Watt, Bianca Barroso and Chrissy Martin.

Significant impact players: Drury, Reidy, Slivinsky and Davidson.

Team strengths: Strong senior leadership, good teamwork and communication.

Team goals: To play as a team and see success on the field.

Top league opponents: All of them.

Outlook: “This is an extremely young team, so there will be a lot of goals that reflect getting to know the game and playing together, but just like any other team, we want to win, make the tournament, and keep winning [and], of course, have fun doing it,” said coach Philbrook. “It will be very important for this team not to underestimate itself and it’s potential.”
