The Friends of Music Concert Series at the First Congregational Church of Camden will present the duo Cinder Conk Sunday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 55 Elm St./Route 1.

Audiences will experience the traditional and original Balkan gypsy music of Cinder Conk, an up-and-coming accordion and bass duo whose music is drawn from the Black Sea — the well-spring of Europe’s deepest and most diverse musical traditions. It is the sound of celebration and lament of those who have lived on its coast over thousands of years.

Cinder Conk weaves frenzied accordion riffs produced by Matthew Schreiber with warm double bass counterpoint produced by Xar Adelberg to create a sound that is energetic, gripping, winsome and haunting. A reception will follow the concert in the church’s Pilgrim Room with light refreshments and an opportunity to meet and discuss the music with the musicians.

As always, each Friends of Music concert is free and open to the public, although donations to sustain the program and to support a recently established music scholarship program will be cheerfully accepted at the door. For more information, contact the church at 236-4821.
