The following is a synopsis of the 2011 Camden Hills Regional High School varsity field hockey squad:

Team: Camden Hills field hockey.

Coach/years coached current team: Jan Holmes-Jackson, 16th year.

Last year’s record/playoff information: 6-8, No. 7 in Eastern Class B. Lost to No. 2 John Bapst of Bangor 3-2 in the quarterfinals.

Roster: Seniors Taylor Porter (right wing), Mallory Farley (center fullback), Shani Morris (left inner), Isabella Benzie (left wing) and Olivia Surprise (midfield, fullback); juniors Alice Flint (right inner), Megan LeGage (center midfield), Rebecca Gray (right fullback), Camilla Walker (forward, midfield), Amy Haynes (left fullback), Avary Lemont (midfield), Chelsea Hunter (forward, midfield) and Anna Mynick (forward, midfield); and sophomores Addie Bragg (midfield) and Zia Sulick (goalie).

Graduation losses: Mia Bergmann, Morgan Farley, Kayla Hart, Maci Heal, Katherine Johanson, Seanna Kelly, Charlotte LeMar and Sarah Nason.

Projected impact players: Porter, Flint and Sulick.

Team strengths: Defensively strong, the Windjammers look to become a better scoring team as the season progresses

Team goals: A berth in the Eastern Class B playoffs and to become “a scoring team,” said coach Holmes-Jackson.

Top league opponents: Belfast, Nokomis of Newport, Gardiner, Mount View of Thorndike, Oceanside and Mount Blue of Farmington.

Outlook: Coach Holmes-Jackson has large shoes to fill after losing eight seniors from last year, including Nason and Heal, who both were first-team all-conference selections, and Johanson, an honorable mention. However, with Sulick doing a superb job in goal in the preseason and Porter returning as last year’s top goal scorer, Holmes-Jackson feels her team could be in the thick of the playoff race at season’s end.

“[I’m looking] for us to perform as a real team and for us to have a winning record and be successful,” she said.
