Schooner Lazy Jack II is launching its Creativity at Sea series with two special four-hour sailing and creative writing events scheduled for Sept. 10 and Sept. 17.

Writing instructor Teresa Piccari, proprietor of The Village Scribe at The Wellness Center in Camden, will facilitate the mini creative writing classes. Seasoned and new writers of all levels are welcome to develop creative fiction and non-fiction writing.

“We will explore using the environment as influence to creative process as we are enveloped by the natural wonders of Penobscot Bay and the purifying and transformative properties of the sea,” said Piccari.

Experience the stunning vistas of Penobscot Bay under sail aboard the Lazy Jack II, an elegant 58-foot schooner built to the lines of L.F. Herreshoff’s 1935 Mobjack design. The Lazy Jack II was built by her captain, owner and operator, Sean O’Connor, in Hope, and launched in October 2004. With 27 years of experience navigating the waters of Penobscot Bay, Captain O’Connor is an engaging personality with many stories to share.

“We developed the Creativity at Sea Series to expand upon our traditional two-hour day sails, offered from May to mid-October. It is our intention to create a new market niche for the Lazy Jack II by joining with local artists and instructors to offer unique creative programming in Midcoast Maine. In addition to writing, we will offer photography, sketching, painting and holistic events,” said Captain O’Connor.

A professional writer for over 25 years, Piccari has led writing workshops, including Creative Writing, Mythic Structure and Memoir, since 1997. She writes about creative process in her column, The 21st Century Bohemian, for Inner Tapestry (www.InnerTapestry.org).

Sailing and Writing also includes a professionally prepared lunch and dessert, with a selection of specialty sandwiches. The first event will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $125 per person. The workshop will also be offered on Saturday, Sept. 17.
