The Velvet Lounge series will offer three nights of music Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 1 though 3. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. nightly at Rock City Café, 316 Main St.

On Thursday, the Bill Barnes Jazz Trio returns for its every-other-week gig. Barnes is a veteran New York session guitarist recently relocated to the Midcoast, and his repertoire includes gypsy jazz, classic jazz standards, sultry bossa novas, tasty ballads and cool, laid back blues.

On Friday, Belfast’s Jim James and Dan Wilson return to Rock City. With James on 12- and 6-string guitars, harmonica and vocals; and Wilson on bass, this duo serves up a distinctive  blend of acoustic blues, folk and original material that  defies convention and delights audiences.

On Saturday, Rock City Café’s resident DJ Hot Tamale will bring a set of music fit for the lounge the venue has become on the weekends. During her Low Lights and Mood Music evening, those noshing and sipping will hear tunes by artists such as Thievery Corporation, The Budos Band, Toro Y Moi, Beruit and more.

As usual there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123.
