Start-up organizations, projects involving economically disadvantaged or disabled Mainers, libraries, symphonies, hospice care, and projects related to the town of Friendship are eligible for funding from the Maine Charity Foundation Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.

The deadline for applications is Sept. 15. A new online application is available at mainecf.org.

Last year, the Maine Charity Foundation Fund distributed $78,750. The 23 grants ranged in size from $1,500 to the maximum award amount of $5,000. Among the organizations funded were Vinalhaven Eldercare Services, to assist in purchasing a wheelchair-accessible van; and Community Health & Counseling Services of Bangor, to develop a business plan for a hospice house in the Bangor area.
