Rock City Café’s Velvet Lounge series offers a diverse range of live music Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 25 through 27. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. each night at Rock City Cafe, 318 Main St.

On Thursday, the Velvet Lounge hosts A Pint of Plain featuring Jim Burke on fiddle; Jim Hyland on guitar, button accordion and fiddle; Hugh McGuinness on cittern; and Susanne Ward on the uilleann pipes.

On Friday, the Velvet Lounge presents Pitch Black Ribbons. Brothers Clint and Cody Phipps have been playing and writing music together since they could talk walk and juggle flaming bowling pins. As their river of a thousand-or-so original songs kept getting deeper and wide, Pitch Black Ribbons is the acoustic duo that has evolved.

On Saturday, Rock City Cafe’s Velvet Lounge warmly welcomes back the Mehuman Trio. Singer/songwriter and guitarist Mehuman (MAY-mon) Jonson is an award-winning songwriter who has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe.   Playing an original mix of acoustic neo-soul and Americana, with influences of jazz, funk and gospel, Mehuman Trio creates a sonic palette. They are in the process of recording their first album of original material.

As usual there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123.
