Hot on the high heels of the release of her new CD “Unconditional,” blues guitarist extraordinaire Ana Popovic will play a sunset cruise Saturday, Aug. 27 on Rockland Harbor.

The cruise aboard the M/V Monhegan will run from 6 to 9 p.m., departing from the public landing’s middle pier. Tickets are $30 and may be obtained by calling Paul Benjamin at 596-6055.

Popovic, who performed at the 2004 North Atlantic Blues Festival, uses a daring slide in her powerful guitar work and offers a soulful fusion of contemporary and classic blues. She recently was a special guest on BB King’s shows in Germany.

Born in Belgrade, Popovic grew up around her guitarist/bass player father’s jam sessions and listening to his impressive blues and soul record collection. At 15, she picked up his guitar and the die was cast. As a university student in the Netherlands, she formed a band that quickly became a popular fixture on the Dutch and German blues scenes. Increasing concert obligations — and increasing unrest and bombing in her hometown — led her to a record deal with Germany’s Ruf label.

A dozen years later, Popovic is a well-seasoned and award-winning professional who counts such luminaries as King, Water Trout, the late Solomon Burke and Buddy Guy among her stage mates. She was part of Robert Radler’s guitar documentary “Turn it up” about the world’s best guitars and guitar players. “Unconditional” is her third Eclecto Groove release.
