On Thursday, Aug. 18, Rock City Café, 316 Main St.,  will transform into the Velvet Lounge with the Bill Barnes Jazz Trio. The trio will be playing every other Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

A veteran New York session guitarist, Barnes started his musical career in the late 1960s, touring with ATCO Records recording artist Arthur Conley (best known for “Sweet Soul Music”). He since has played with a stellar lineup of music industry heavies.  His latest album, “Winds of Bodhgaya,” is now available. Trio, duo or solo, Barnes’ repertoire includes gypsy jazz, classic jazz standards, sultry bossa novas, tasty ballads and cool, laid-back blues.

As usual there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123.
