Popular perennial guest artist James Campbell brings his clarinet back to the Midcoast for a pair of Bay Chamber Concerts. Other world-class musicians performing are Earl Raney on trumpet; Mark Fewer on violin; John Novacek on piano; Marc Johnson on cello; Rose Vrbsky, bassoon; Alana Vegter, horn; and Peter Zazofsky, viola.

The Spirit of the ’20s

On Wednesday, Aug. 24, Bay Chamber Concerts will present a program titled The Spirit of the ’20s at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St. The concert will feature Campbell, Fewer, Novocek, Johnson, Raney and Vrbsky, performing some 1920s favorites including works by Stravinsky, Milhaud and Duke Ellington.

Ticketholders are invited to a Music & Art exchange featuring Bay Chamber artistic director Thomas Wolf and Farnsworth Art Museum chief curator Michael Komanecky at 7 p.m. at the museum. They will explore of one of the richest periods in American arts and music. Seating is limited; pre-registration is recommended by 4 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a post-concert reception with the artists immediately following the performance at a nearby location to be announced from the stage.

Timeless Treasures

The following evening, Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St., the program Timeless Treasures will feature Campbell, Fewer, Novacek, Johnson, Vegter and Zazofsky. The evening promises chamber music treasures by Schumann, Mozart and Dohnany.

Ticketholders are invited to a free pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. featuring the musicians and Wolf in the downstairs meeting room. There will be a post-concert reception with the artists immediately following the concert at the nearby Center for Maine Contemporary Art.
