Arts in the Barn, the summer exhibition program at the Cushing Historical Society’s barn on Hathorne Point Road, will present a six-member family show Friday through Sunday, Aug. 19 through 21. Ida and Fred Berg; Emily and Sam Charlton; and Laura June and Jackie Loveland will exhibit a delightful and colorful collection of arts and crafts.

The show will open with a public reception Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., and the exhibition will continue Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fred Berg will show his artful creations in fused glass, some with practical applications and others purely ornamental, a colorful rainbow of objects that visitors to his earlier exhibition at the Historical Society will remember with pleasure. Ida Berg’s skill with handwork is combined with an indisputable sense of humor in her endearing depictions of chickens, both appliquéd and quilted.

The Bergs’ extended family will uphold the element of the unexpected in their own contributions, ranging from knitted Möbius scarves and felted pictorials to a variety of artisan beadworks. Some of the items on exhibition will be for sale.
