Classmates of Rockland High School’s class of 1944 met for their first luncheon this year at the newly opened Denny’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 14 with 23 attending.

Those in attendance were Fred S. and Barbara Allen, Alice Hall Hedrich and daughter Christine, Mary Connally Hills, Betty Holmes Knight, Louise Veazie Knowlton, Christine Newhall McMahon, Gloria Compton Spinney, Beverly Cogan Worthington and Charles Whitmore, all of Rockland. Also, Elisie Norton Brown of South Thomaston, and Charlotte Murphy Staples and Wilfred Mills of Spruce Head, Joyce Mitchell Ingraham of Rockport, Horatio Cowan of Camden, Mildred Harvey Staples and Georgia Stevens Tasho of Owls Head, Ruth Carter Low of Rockport, Neil and Esther Munro Novicka of Warren, Shirley Eaton Porter of Hampden and Lois Nichols Smiley from Massachusetts who was visiting here with relatives in Hope.

Unable to attend were Conni Kangas of West Rockport, Lincoln McRae of Owls Head and Gloria Witham of Rockland.

A classmate in Findley, Ohio, Joan Look Ramig, arranged for a beautifully designed cake to be served at the luncheon. The group sang its class songs — copies supplied by Gloria Witham.

Plans for an Aug. 18 luncheon are being arranged.

Esther Novicka thanked everyone for attending the luncheon and thanks were given for the perfect service and friendly atmosphere that prevailed all during the luncheon by the restaurant staff.
