Navy ship visits Rockland

U.S. Navy's Arleigh Burke class destroyer USS Mahan visited Rockland Harbor during the 64th Maine Lobster Festival, Aug. 3 through 7.

The USS Mahan was the 22nd guided missile destroyer in the Arleigh Burke class, and the 12th ship in that class built by Bath Iron Works. The 505-foot Mahan draws 30 feet and can travel at a speed of more than 30 knots. It was launched on June 29, 1996, and commissioned Feb. 14, 1998. Elenore Dauncey
