”A group of pilgrims, of pioneers, that’s what you are,” reflected a guest at the recent pastoral installation of the newly formed Pilgrim Community Church – A Congregational Fellowship.  The church meets Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. in the Teen Center of the Penobscot Bay YMCA. The heart of this church is a focus on ministries which meet both spiritual and physical needs within the larger Midcoast area.

The ministries already in motion include a powerful prison ministry, a keyboard ministry to share worship with folks who are unable to attend worship services, and a Bread Board Ministry which shares the Bread of Life with all who attend. The church is preparing its fall educational program for adults, teens and children as it makes ready to reach out in new ministries which have been envisioned for the church. Already this new church has received national acknowledgment for its service as a Purpose Driven Church.

At the recent pastoral installation, the church welcomed local and national visitors and its first pastor, the Rev. Robin Honaker.

The service included a wide range of music, beginning with the Penobscot Bay Ringers, who welcomed worshipers with their unique blend of bells. Julie Burgess, Pilgrim pianist, added her extraordinary interpretation of both traditional and contemporary Christian music. Debbie Drake lifted her voice in powerful praise in the much loved Christian Country Music genre. The band of the Warren Baptist Church provided  joyful contemporary  music. This blend of music reflects the congregation’s love of and appreciation for all forms of music.

This young church, which has been recently received as a member of the NACCC, welcomed national leaders and members of local churches to the installation. The service included not only music, but also pictorial Power Point presentation that recorded the history of their journey to this point in their ministry.

The service, which was hosted in the First Congregational Church of Rockland, was followed by a reception where all could gather to enjoy food, fellowship, and share stories of how this new church came to be as well as how it is reaching out to share God’s love and blessing to people in need.
