Stemwinder Sculpture Works & Gardens will be open Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12 and 13, as sculptor Jay Sawyer hosts an open studio at his outdoor gallery. The property showcases Sawyer’s work in a beautiful natural setting, complimenting his rustic “outdoorsy” sculpture. Pieces of work range from table-top size to some that weigh more than a ton and are inspired by a variety of found objects. A nice variety of garden sculpture and contemporary art is situated on the three groomed acres.
Open hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days; to enter the gallery, look for the patriotic pickup one quarter mile from Route 1 on Camden Road/Route 90. For more information, call Sawyer at 273-3948. To see sculpture no longer at Stemwinder, visit StemwinderSculpture.com.
Those interested in meeting the artist should be aware that he will be attending an opening reception Saturday afternoon in Damariscotta. Sawyer has been selected to participate in a group show titled “Mentors” at The Firehouse Center for the Falcon Foundation. He said he is happy to be showing with many accomplished artists connected with Maine. “Mentors” will run through Oct. 8. For more information, visit firehousefalconcenter.com.
