On Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 6 and at 8:15 p.m., Bay Chamber Concerts will presents La Musique, two different one-hour concerts at the Farnsworth Wyeth Center with the St. Lawrence String Quartet and harpist Julie Smith. This all-French program features Impressionist works by St. Saens, Ravel and Debussy, performed in the intimate museum setting of the center on Union Street. The current exhibition at the Wyeth Center, “Andrew Wyeth: Christina’s World and the Olson House,” creates an especially dramatic setting for experiencing live music. There will be a post-concert reception with the artists in the Wyeth Center lobby immediately following the Part II performance where concertgoers have the rare opportunity to personally interact with the musicians.

The following evening, Thursday, Aug. 18 at 8 p.m., a Harp, Strings & Winds program will feature the quartet and harpist joined by flutist Thomas Wolf and clarinetist Romie de Guise-Langois at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. The program includes Beethoven’s String Quartet, Op. 127 and St. Saens’ ephemeral “The Swan.”

Gaining international recognition for her charismatic performing style and diverse repertoire, Smith was the silver medalist winner in the 2004 USA International Harp Competition and bronze medalist in 2001. Her other honors include grand prizes in the Corpus Christi International Young Artist Competition and the Midland/Odessa National Young Artist Competition, both open to all instrumentalists.
