On Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Rockport Public Library will host a celebration of the books chosen for the Camden-Rockport Middle School Summer Reads program.

All middle school students and their families are invited to attend this program, which will be held in the downstairs of the Rockport Opera House.

Hope Elephants will be at the event to represent the fifth-grade book, “Magician’s Elephant,” by Kate DiCamillo. The sixth-graders read “Eleven,” by Patricia Reilly Giff and a woodworking project will coincide with this choice. The seventh-graders read “No More Dead Dogs,” by Gordon Korman, which will be represented by the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League. The shelter will bring kittens, a dog and a variety of literature. The eighth-grade book, “Touching Spirit Bear,” will be represented by a Native American activity. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Michelle Gabrielson, the CRMS literacy coach and Kathy Foss, the middle school Media Specialist coordinate this program each year. They will be at this event to discuss the books and celebrate summer reading.
