The Walkers, a music ministry family from Perry, Fla., will present a concert Friday, Aug. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rockland Congregational Church, 180 Limerock St.

Since November of 1991, the Walkers have covered more than 700,000 miles in their music evangelism ministry. Their faith was put to the test on New Year’s Day 1994 when they all were overcome with carbon monoxide poisoning on their bus in Blacksburg, S.C. Husband and father Billy G. Walker, Sr. did not survive this accident. At a time when leaving the ministry would have been a very viable option for the Walkers, they continued to heed the call and put their faith to the test as God helped them through that most trying and difficult time.

The group has performed from Alaska to Maine and everywhere in between. The Walkers’ ministry has been part of large churches to small churches and from state camp meetings to Washington, D.C., where they sang at the Upper Senate Park across from the U.S. Capital building.

There is no admission for the concert, but a love offering will be collected. For more information about the group, visit their Myspace page.
