Stormy weather expected this evening has caused a change in plans for the big sing-along “Wizard of Oz” event hosted by the Camden Public Library and Camden Cinema Committee, with assist from The Rig and VillageSoup.

The screening will take place at 8 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, Aug. 2) in the Camden Opera House, Elm Street/Route 1. The children’s activities, including a reading from L. Frank Baum’s book and related crafts, will still begin at 6 p.m. but in the library rather than at the Camden Amphitheatre. Members of The Rig will help folks find their way to the opera house.

Otherwise, all systems are go for a fun celebration of the 1939 MGM film classic. VillageSoup is making the lyrics of the movie’s beloved songs available for download at The lyric sheets may be printed up and brought to the opera house to enable the audience to “O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!” with abandon. Costumes are encouraged.

All the evening’s fun and frolic is free, part of the library’s American Cultural Journey programs being offered throughout the summer. In addition to movies, the library offers programs including lectures, music concerts and the adult summer reading program.
