On Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m., Bay Chamber Concerts will present St. Lawrence Premieres at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St.  Sponsored by Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors, this concert will feature Bay Chamber’s resident string quartet, the St. Lawrence, with pianist Anne-Marie McDermott and bass Anthony Manzo. They will perform Mendelssohn’s Sextet for Piano and Strings, Op. 110l Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18, No. 4; and Osvaldo Goliljov’s Yiddishbuk for String Quartet.

Ticketholders are invited to a Music & Art exchange featuring Bay Chamber artistic director Thomas Wolf and Farnsworth Art Museum chief curator Michael Komanecky at 7 p.m. at the museum. The 10 topic will be The Challenge of Success — Looking at the career, work and challenges of some of some of today’s most successful artists and musicians, including composer Golijov. Seating is limited; pre-registration is recommended by 4 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a post-concert reception with the artists immediately following the performance at the nearby Jonathan Frost Gallery on Winter Street.

The following evening, Thursday, Aug. 11 at 80 p.m., Bay Chamber will present The Grand Sextet at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. The St. Lawrence String Quartet will again be joined by McDermott and Manzo to perform Glinka’s Grand Sextet in E-flat major for Piano and Strings as well as works by Joseph Lanner and Schubert. Ticketholders are invited to a free pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. featuring the musicians and Wolf in the downstairs meeting room. There will be a post-concert reception with the artists immediately following the concert at the nearby Center for Maine Contemporary Art.
