Art Space Gallery, 342 Main St., will host an artists’ reception Friday, Aug. 5 during the 5 to 8 p.m. First Friday art walk. Nineteen talented local artists exhibit artwork of a variety of media at Art Space Gallery, and each month four of these artists’ recent works are featured in the gallery’s entrance hall. Featured artists for August are painters Audrey Bechler, Lauren Gill and Judy Herman; and sculptor Randy Fein.

Turning the mundane into the familiarly sentimental, venerable plein air painter Bechler expresses her fondness of Waldoboro’s Back Cove via her paintbrush and canvas. Gill’s recent works lean to the abstract; hold one and watch the light catch gold in the paint.  The glazing effect created by transparent watercolors is what draws homeopathic veterinarian and nature enthusiast Herman to that medium. Pieces created as a teaching assistant at Haystack on Deer Isle last month will be among Fein’s singular handmade ceramic relief sculpture and wheel-thrown pottery.

Most of the gallery’s artists will be on hand to share refreshments and conversation.  Art Space Gallery is located across from the Strand. For more information and examples of the members’ artwork, visit artspacemaine.com.
