The monthly evening of shape note singing is set for Monday, Aug. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the First Church Fellowship Hall. The church is between Court and Church streets, and the hall entrance is on Spring Street.
This energetic four-part unaccompanied community singing, dating from Colonial New England, is also known as Sacred Harp singing. The singing is open to all, at no cost, and newcomers are most welcome. Books will be available for loan and purchase.
This month, everyone also is invited to come tell or hear about the recent two-day All-Maine Singing in Union. For more information, call 338-1265 or 594-5743.
