The Rev. Beverly Blaisdell, pastor at the Waldoboro United Methodist Church, will preside over the annual worship service at the Old German Church, founded in 1773, on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 3 p.m. The church is located on Route 32 South in Waldoboro.

Their church choir will perform assisted by organist Paul Smeltzer. Donations will be accepted.

The service celebrates the German ancestors who settled Waldoboro and their many descendants.

Visit the nearby interesting and historic cemetery, which includes graves of the early German settlers and their descendants.

Among the interesting features of this historic church are the boxed pews members would buy, which helped toward expenses.

The glass cabinet at the front of the church holds old family Bibles and hymnals.

During the service beautiful hymns will be included with a prayer in German and English by Bob Butler. Communion will be served following worship.

Free refreshments will be available after the service adjacent to the church by the German Protestant Ladies Auxiliary assisted by the Waldoboro Woman’s Club.
