Calderwood graduation announcement

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Matthew Calderwood graduated from Vanderbilt University on May 13 with an interdisciplinary bachelor of arts degree in linguistics.

While at Vanderbilt he served for two years as co-president of Synergy, a student-run organization mentoring at-risk high school students in the Metro Nashville Public Schools. He spent last summer living with a Mayan family in the highlands of Guatemala studying Kiche’, a native Mayan language.

Following graduation he joined Teach for America in Phoenix, where he will be teaching for two years while also pursuing a master’s degree at Arizona State University.

Matthew is the son of Terry and Susan Calderwood of Brentwood, Tenn., (and formerly of Camden) and a 2007 graduate of Brentwood High School.

Connecticut College announces dean’s list

NEW LONDON, Conn. — The following local students have achieved dean’s honors, a recognition for students who have earned a grade point average of at least 3.3, or dean’s high honors, a recognition for students who have earned a grade point average of at least 3.7, for the 2011 spring semester at Connecticut College.

Diana Phillips, class of 2013 at Connecticut College and a resident of Camden, has been named to the dean’s honors list.

Noelle Surprise, class of 2014 at Connecticut College and a resident of Camden, has been named to the dean’s high honors list.

Bryson Cowan, class of 2012 at Connecticut College and a resident of Thomaston, has been named to the dean’s high honors list.

EASTON, Mass. — Stonehill College recently named Rockport resident Lynn A. Mayberry, a member of the class of 2013, to its dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester.

Area residents named to Union College’s dean’s list

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The following local residents were among the 700 Union College students named to the dean’s list:

Benjamin Lynch, class of 2011, a resident of Camden. Lynch is a computer science major and a 2007 graduate of Camden Hills Regional High School.

Alistair Phaup, class of 2014, a resident of Camden. Phaup is an economics major and a 2010 graduate of Camden Hills Regional High School.

To be named to the dean’s list, Union students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the academic year and meet certain other requirements.
