Get your housework done before Thursday, and plan to head for the lakes and beaches, or just a shady spot under a tree.

Weather forecaster Kevin Mannix of WCSH 6 is predicting humid weather to move in on Wednesday night and continue into Friday night, and the National Weather Service says this: “Dry high pressure will move across New England today and tonight, and begin shifting to the east on Wednesday. High pressure moves offshore by Thursday, and will produce a period of hot weather Thursday through Saturday, with the hottest weather of this summer possible on Thursday. A cold front looks to cross the region late Saturday, and may produce a few isolated thunderstorms. Sunday looks seasonably warm and dry, with a better chance for showers and storms early next week as a more significant cold front approaches.”

With the hot weather comes precautions (or old wives’ tales, depending on personal preference), such as: If you don’t have air conditioners leave windows open on the next couple of cool nights and then close windows and pull shades or curtains during the day to keep the cool air in.

Pets suffer in hot weather

Animal owners: Keep your pets at home in the safety of shade or cool basements, and provide plenty of water. This is not the time to take them along while running errands. Sure, they will understand. See an animal in a car on those hot days? Alert local law enforcement.

Humans, take note

High relative humidity reduces the effectiveness of sweating; therefore, take it easy. Don’t tax oneself.
