The Humane Society of Knox County announces that local business owner Heidi Vanorse has been elected to its Board of Directors.

HSKC Board President Warner Vaughan said in a news release: “We are very pleased that Heidi has joined our group. We have appreciated her ongoing support as the owner of the Loyal Biscuit Company. Her outstanding business insight and marketing skills are important assets that will help us do even more for people and companion animals in this area.”

Vanorse said: “I was very excited when I was asked to join the board because it seemed like a great fit for me. I love animals (including my four rescue dogs), and I have been very involved in community service since I was in junior high school. At Loyal Biscuit, we frequently hold events to raise money and gather items needed by HSKC.”

Rockland native Vanorse has an accounting degree from Thomas College in Waterville. She has worked in banking for 15 years, most recently as VP, Branch Operations for Midcoast Federal Credit Union. In January 2010, she and her husband purchased the Loyal Biscuit Co. in Rockland, and they recently opened a new Belfast location. As a result of their success with the Loyal Biscuit Co., Heidi was awarded the 2010 Rising Star Award by the Penobscot Bay Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Loyal Biscuit Co. was voted the Best Maine Pet Store for 2010 and 2011 by the readers of Downeast Dog News.

She lives in Rockland with her husband Joel Neal and four dogs: Buffy, Izzy, Fenway and Chuck. She is currently a board member of the Maine Lobster Festival, and she has previously served on the boards of the Rockland Rotary and the Midcoast Habitat for Humanity.
